Autofocus: The Productivity System That Treats Your To-Do List Like a River (Brett & Kate McKay)

As a project manager, I love (and also hate – let’s be honest) a to-do list. This is one of the most interesting and practical ways of managing to-dos that I’ve come across, based on the idea that the river of tasks is never actually done. I used this method during a season when I was particularly overwhelmed, and it really helped. I always have a list of some sort (be it digital or analog) but I often find myself reverting to the simplest approach: a handwritten brain dump in a notebook.

Unreasonable Hospitality: The Remarkable Power of Giving People More Than They Expect (Will Guidara)

Unreasonable Hospitality by Will Guidara is about going beyond what’s expected and paying closer attention to people. Using lessons from his time running Eleven Madison Park, Guidara focuses on leadership, team culture, and the impact of small, thoughtful details. A big theme is that hospitality isn’t just for customers – it starts with how you treat your team – and that high standards and generosity can (and should) exist together. Ultimately, it’s a reminder that how you make people feel is often what they remember most.

The Artificial Intelligence Show (Paul Roetzer and Mike Kaput)

I’ve been listening to this podcast since early 2023 (right after the pivotal moment that ChatGPT officially came on the scene in late Nov. 2022.)This podcast provides a fantastic overview of the latest AI models, tools, and provides general insights on how AI is impacting businesses. The show format is usually three big news stories and a few rapid-fire topics of all that’s happening in the world of AI. In my opinion, this is the BEST podcast for keeping up with AI news with a minimal time commitment.

The Characteristics of a Guide (Donald Miller)

Donald Miller is an exceptional storyteller and the author of several books, including my personal favorite, Building a StoryBrand. In this moving talk from The Welcome Conference (2024), he breaks down the power of connection and the essential role of the guide in any great story.

The guide isn’t the hero; they’re the one behind the scenes: strong, capable, and committed to helping the hero win the day. They bring clarity, confidence, and direction, and they’re relentlessly focused on doing the work well. It’s a reminder that the most impactful leaders aren’t seeking the spotlight – they’re pursuing excellence and helping others move forward.
